Patients with POTS experience a wide variety of debilitating symptoms including brain fog, cognitive dysfunction, dizziness and lightheadedness, nausea and digestive issues, fatigue and temperature regulation problems. This webinar will review the diagnostic criteria for POTS, including orthostatic tachycardia, and the challenges of diagnosing and treating POTS, especially when alongside other co-morbid conditions. We will discuss the standard treatments for POTS of this often misdiagnosed or mistreated condition and why individualized, patient-centered care is essential for effective POTS management. Finally, this webinar will explore the nonpharmacologic approach for intervention of POTS, cardiovascular exercise rehabilitation. We will discuss the factors that should be considered when prescribing an exercise program to improve adherence, engagement, tolerability and overall effect to improve long-term health outcomes.

LEARNER OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

Define the diagnostic criteria and common symptoms associated with POTS.

Identify current standard treatments for POTS and key factors in a patient-centered approach to increase adherence and effectiveness within the rehabilitation process.

Analyze the current pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches to POTS.

Describe clinical considerations in developing individualized cardiovascular exercise programs for patients with POTS to improve long-term health outcomes and return to functional independence.

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
Participants will be present during the live webinar in its entirety and complete an attendance verification and feedback survey in the Academy Learning Portal within one month of the live air date.

AUDIENCE
Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Physicians, Physician Assistants and Speech-Language Pathologists

CONTINUING EDUCATION
Occupational Therapists:

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is an AOTA Approved Provider of professional development.
